The Unexpected Things That Life Brings You.

2020 was a mouthful of events, props to you too dear reader!

I wanted to share my story as an International Student living in the States. I am Parisian born and Burkinabè living in Miami.

I moved to the US 5 years ago to take a fresh start where I studied Marketing. I was always drawn to entrepreneurship, and I truly believe that when an opportunity comes to you, jump on it. Be aware of the signs, trust your gut. There are plenty of events you can control, one being avoiding regrets. You are the master of your life, if you don’t like something change it.

In Summer 2018, after watching a lot of sewing videos I bought my first sewing machine.

My family came to visit me and brought me some African Print. I first wanted to make tote bags, but because I was wearing so many headwraps, and people kept asking about it, I thought why not start a company where I would sell my own handmade headwraps! That’s how I found the name It’s a Wraap !! The following months, I was doing a lot of brainstorming about the direction I wanted to take and two years later I am launching It’s a Wraap !!

So, fast forward to 2020, I was looking for a job to do my Optional Practical Training - OPT, around my graduation. I really got discouraged because I couldn’t find a job that would be a great fit and the pandemic made the search harder. I also knew that it would be the perfect opportunity to start my company. I am very grateful that I was able to find a flexible job that does not stop me from being an entrepreneur. So, right now, I am doing my OPT in my own company as well.

I am definitely confident in my sewing skills, and I took a big leap of faith starting my company. You can follow my journey on Instagram @itsawraap_ and my website www.itsawraap.com.

Thank you for reading my words and Happy New Year. I hope that you can make the most of what 2020 taught you. Value what you do and persevere. The best is yet to come.
